My painting "Retail Therapy" was chosen as Gallery Staff Pick In “Retail Therapy”, Gina Rubin captures the simple joy of wandering charming streets and discovering small treasures. Her warm palette and inviting composition evoke a sense of contentment and ease, transforming an everyday moment into a celebration of pleasure, pause, and personal delight.

Into the Blue Exhibition - FCA

This Exhibition "Into the Blue" hosted by the Fraser Valley Chapter of the FCA took place September 2025. I was awarded third place for my painting Sparklers!

Harmony Arts Festival Grand Prix

The Grand Prix of Art took place during the Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver. A few dozen participants were given 3 hours to paint from a randomly chosen location. Gina won first place for her painting from 17th Avenue area of the beach. It was a wonderful event in a beautiful location!!

Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival

June 17-22, 2025 I am honoured to have been chosen as one of thirty artist to compete in this International festival in Nova Scota this June! I will post on my Facebook and Instagram throughout and hope anyone in the area can come by and enjoy the festival.

Yay! I finished a 31 daily painting from life challenge, today! It has been an excellent way to learn and practice a new skill. Here are a few of my favourites. Happy New Year! I hope you are looking forward to the year ahead and it brings all that you hope for!

It’s that time of year when I sit down and take a look back on the year and all the things we lived and done. I feel like we only get so many spins around the sun, so we should make the most of it. I don’t want to get to the end and have regrets. So, I like to take some time and consider how I would like to spend my time in the coming year. I have been making an evolving bucket list since I was in my 20s. I try to balance all the things that are important to me, like:
Am I taking good care of myself, my partner, and other loved ones in ways that I can?
Am I filling my soul with friends and family time?
Am I giving back to my community in some way?
Have I tried something new? (Like my urban sketches you see here)
Have I gone somewhere I have never been before?
Am I sharing what I know, with those that want to know?
Am I growing my art, my knowledge, my creativity?
Did I get outside and savour nature, enough?
I make a loose plan and enjoy the ride, while being open to new and exciting experiences and challenges. There are never enough hours in a day to do it all, but some for sure!

My studio, small and a bit over stuffed, provides me with just enough space to ruminate and create away from the outside world.
The window beside my easel opens out into our back yard with a view of the trees reaching towards the ever changing sky. With my window open, I can breath fresh air and listen to natures sounds. The wind, the rain, and if I am lucky an owl calling. Sometimes, when I am deep into the quiet work of painting, a movement in my peripheral vision pulls my attention. To my delight, this year, it was often a doe with her two spotted fawns. Coyotes and bears are frequent visitors, too. The quiet comes with a pensive wonder of what will come next. #mrpmartstudiotour #bcartist #artiststudio

I don’t always do a paint-a-long in my art classes, but when I do, it looks like this! Painting set up and mixing reds were the focus of this one. Everyone did a fabulous job with their pieces! I had so much fun painting this from a memory of my son and close friends playing with sparklers in our backyard.

First one done! The others started!

A couple of weeks ago, I let everyone know that I wouldn’t be doing my Painting a Day challenge, but instead offered to do two paintings in exchange for a donation. Well, very quickly, I got 5 commissions before I could update my post!

Here is the progress, so far. One done, and the rest in the works.

The donations will be going to the Chiron Fund at the Vancity Community Foundation, set up in memory of my sister.

Plein Air Monday at Davidson Pool.
We could feel the crispness of the changing season in the air this morning.
It was very peaceful painting to the sounds of the river going by.
We were joined by two blue heron and a few local fishermen.
I think they were a bit surprised to see us this morning.

Awards night at the Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival- tonight we got to see 60 paintings by the 30 artists selected for this event. I really enjoyed seeing all the amazing work by all of the artists in all of the different mediums and styles. It fills me up!!! On top of all that joy, I was selected to win one of the 7 prizes given out Best Use of Light, which came with a $500 cash prize. Day 4 PIPAF - painting #5 I enjoyed the morning at the Age of Sales Museum in Port Greville,NS . Apparently this little area gets a high enough tide that the ship builders here could set their new ships asail into the bay. The last photo is the view last night from out RV spot.

Day 3 PIPAF- Today, I painted painting #4 at a look out beside our campsite. This rock formation is called Old Wife. Despite being bitten by black flies, mosquitoes and midges, it’s been pretty amazing! We saw a baby fox hunting and we moved to another campsite that also has magnificent views of the Bay of Fundy. #pipaf #parrsboro #pleinair #pleinairpainting #pleinairpainter

It’s Day 2 of the Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival! This place is magical! Here I am on the Five Islands Park beach at low tide painting my first painting of the day. In the afternoon, I painted from our amazing campsite. You will see in the pictures, the change in tides. Tides here are expected to come in at 41 feet by 7 pm tonight, but will be low again by morning.

A big part of my artistic journey is to be brave and try new things. Experimenting and learning from others, including master painters, sometimes means being uncomfortable and unsuccessful in my attempts to learn. By persevering I hope to discover something special that I can use going forward.
This past weekend I participated in a workshop with master painter David Langevin. I admit it was probably the most difficult workshop I have ever done, because the techniques were opposite to what I am used to. I struggled!
Determined to get something out of it, after a failed attempt, I tried 2 more at home and then moved on to my own version. It might not be exactly what was shared, but I at least picked up some things to use.
There are many ways to paint and always something to learn!

I did my daily painting at the B.C. Wide Landscape Event held by the @langleyartscouncil . I was not in the main competition this year, but painted in the People’s Choice portion of the event.
